天才は努力が生み出す
歌手で声楽家の四谷文子さんの言葉だそうです。
「努力家」と「天才」をよく対比する話をよく聞くけれど、ブイチはその考えは間違っていると思います。天才と呼ばれている人で、努力をしなかった人はいないもの。
今日は努力について話をします。お付き合いください。

「東大に入る人達は、天才なんだ」
という話をたまに聞きます。この言葉を言う奥には「もともと自分と違うんだから、自分は東大に入れなくても仕方ない」という言い訳の気持ちや、嫉妬の気持ちがあるんだよね。
努力をしない人ほど、才能を言い訳にします。
東大に合格した人たちが、毎日毎日何時間も勉強を重ねたことや、遊びたい誘惑にうちかってただひたすら努力を重ねたことを知らないまま。
もしもその事実を知ったとしても、それでも才能を言い訳にするかもしれません。「自分とは違うんだ」と。
今活躍している人で、努力をしていない人はいません。
もしも努力をしていないように見えるなら、それは努力をみせていないだけです。
どんなにすばらしい素質があっても、磨かなかったら光りません。
ダイヤも加工したり磨くことで、価値が高くなるでしょ？

環境によって自分の素質が光り輝く場合もあります。
正確にいえば、その環境に適応しようともがいて、努力を積み重ねた結果、素質が光輝いたんだよね。
海外で生活して、なんとか適応しようともがいていたら、知らない間に英語がしゃべれるようになったとか、海外で生活をするために必要な力や技術が身についたとか、あるでしょ？
例えば、日本のサッカークラブからヨーロッパの一流サッカークラブに移籍して、なんとかレギュラーになろうとがんばっているうちに、日本にいたころよりも強くなったってことあるでしょ？
どちらにしろ、環境を変えただけではだめで、そこで腐らないで努力を続けた結果、強くなれたんだよね。
遺伝子（素質）が発現するためには、環境だったり、作用する物質の影響が不可欠です。
・・・・・・むずかしいよね。詳しくは理科の先生に聞いてほしいんだけれど、簡単に説明すると、
すべての遺伝子にはスイッチがあると思ってください。
条件を満たせば、そのスイッチはオンになります。
遺伝子については、まだまだ未知の領域が多いから、断定したことはいえないけれど、「努力をする」ことを条件にしてスイッチが入る遺伝子もあると思います。ブイチの考えだけど。
努力したら足が速くなる とか。 努力したら頭が良くなる とかね。
素質があるかどうか見極めるのは、努力したり、挑戦してからでも遅くはないよね。

Efforts make a genius.
This is a word of Ms. Fumiko Yotsuya, a vocalist.
Some people compare “a genius” and “the person who makes hard efforts”, but I think this comparison is nonsense. There is no genius who doesn’t make any effort. Today, I would like to talk you about this “effort”.

“The students who can enter the University of Tokyo are geniuses”, I have often heard this. I guess, behind this word, there is a sentiment or an excuse like “as we are not genius at all, this is natural that we cannot enter the University of Tokyo.”
Person who doesn’t do any effort makes the difference of talents as the excuse.
He never imagines how many hours did these students studied hard every day to enter the University of Tokyo. He never imagine how stoically these students studied by resisting the temptation of games and plays.
Even if he gets to know these facts, he still might make the talent as the excuse by saying “they are different from me.”
All of the persons who are successful in many fields make efforts.
You may not see their efforts, but that is because they just make their efforts behind the scene. Talent without any efforts never shines. A diamond shines when you cut it and polish it up.

Sometimes, the environment make the talent shine.
To be more correct, if you struggle to adapt yourself into the environment, as a result of those efforts, you can shine yourself.
For instance, when you live in a foreign country, if you struggle for survival, you can speak English naturally, and you can gain skills and the knowhow to live abroad.
For instance, if a J-league player was transferred to a football team in Europe, and made hard efforts to get the regular position, he can be stronger player than before when he played in Japan.
About both cases, changing the environment is not enough. By continuing hard efforts there, they got stronger.

“In order to make a gene expressed, influences of environment and the operating objects are important.”
This is a very difficult explanation, right? Please ask your science teacher about this
Let me explain it more simply.
Imagine each gene has a switch.
If all conditions are satisfied, the switch will be switched on.
About gene, as there are still many unknown spheres, we cannot make a definite explanation. I believe there must be a gene which makes “effort” as that switch.
If you make efforts, you can run faster.
If you study hard, you can be good at studying.
It is not too late to judge after you make efforts whether you have the talent or not.
