疾風をみて勁草を知る。
ブイチの好きな言葉の一つです。たしか中国のことわざだったと思います。
疾風というのは強い風のことです。勁草（けいそう）というのは強い草のことです。
強い風が吹いたときに、吹き飛ばされなかった強い草と、そうでない弱い草を見分けることができるという意味です。

たとえば、20代のころは見た目がとてもきれいでモテモテの女の人がいるとします。たくさんの男の人たちからデートのお誘いや、プレゼントをもらっているかもしれません。
でも、年齢を重ねて、若いころのような見た目のきれいさがなくなったら、見た目にひかれて集まっていた男の人たちは離れていきます。
でもね、なかには今までと変わらずにお付き合いをしてくれる人たちもいます。それは、別に恋愛としてじゃなくて、友人としてかもしれないけど、見た目とは関係なく、人としてお付き合いをしてくれる人に気づくときがくると思うんだよね。
お仕事にしてもそうです。
たとえば、お仕事が順調で、お金持ちになったら、たくさんの人が集まってきます。
そんなときって、ついついお友だちがたくさん増えて、自分が偉くなった気分になりがちだよね。
でも、お仕事がうまくいかなくなって、借金をかかえたら、今まで集まってきた人たちはあっというまに離れていきます。絶対です。
友だちだと思って助けをもとめたら冷たくつきはなされるかもしれません。
でもね。
なかにはそれでも今までとかわらず付き合ってくれる人たちもいるんだよね。
お金があろうがなかろうが関係なくね。
そういう友だちに気づけたってことはすばらしいことだと思うんだよね。
もしもそういう友だちに出会えたときは、その友情を大切にしてほしいです。
もしも今後、友だちが落ちぶれたときでも、冷たく突き放したりせずに、君自身がいままでと変わらない友だちでいてあげてほしいです。

「疾風を見て勁草を知る」考え方は、自分の強みを知ることにも使えます。
光は、闇のなかでこそ輝きます。
苦しい困難なことのなかでこそ、見えてくるものもあるとおもうんだよね。
たとえば、テスト。
テスト結果を見て、自分の得意科目とか不得意科目とかがわかるでしょ？
テストを受けることは大変だけれど、テストを受ける機会がなかったら、自分がなにが得意か、気づきにくいと思うんだよね。
ただし、一生懸命テストに取り組まないと意味ないけどね。じゃないと、自分の実力がわからないでしょ？
テストのように困難なことに一生懸命取り組むことで、自分の強みに気づくということは、つまり、困難なことって、もしかしたら自分の強みや得意なことに気づくチャンスかもしれないよね。

“When you see Shippuu, you know Keiso.”
This is my favourite words.
I remember this is a proverb of China.
“Shippu” means strong wind or gale.
“Keiso” means strong grass.
This proverb means that you can distinguish strong grass from weak one when strong wind blows.

For instance, imagine a woman in her 20s. She is very good-looking and many men approach her for dating. Some might give her presents.
But when she gets in her 30s, her beauty isn’t so appealing as before. Most men who were attracted by her appearance have left her.
But there must be somebody who remains and keeps association with her. Although it might not be a love relationship, he associates with her as a friend, and as a person.
We can say the same thing in business.
If you are successful in business, and earn much money, many people gather around you. At that time, you might think that you are a great man. But once your business has gotten into a trouble and you’ve lost much money, these many people leave you. Definitely they do. If you ask help to your “friends”, they decline it coldly.
But, in this situation, even if you have money or not, there must be someone who remains and keep association with you as same as before.
It is great for you to find out this great real friend.
If you can find this good friend, please keep the friendship for long.
And if your friend is in trouble and falls on hard times, please keep friendship with him (her) same as before.

You can use the way of thinking of “When you see Shippuu, you know Keiso,” into your business.
Light looks stronger when it glows in the darkness.
I think there is something we can see only when we are in hard times.
For example, test.
When you see the scores of tests, you can see which subject are you good at or weak at, right?
It’s not fun to take tests, but we cannot distinguish subjects without taking tests, what is strong or what is weak.
Of course, you have to take the tests seriously. Otherwise, we cannot get anything from the tests.
By trying hard things like tests, you can see the real strong point of you. We can say a hard thing is a good chance for you to see your strength.
If you challenge a hard thing, but you still cannot find out your strength.
In this case, your strong point might be in other fields.
For instance, a boy who is very good at reading, but is not good at playing sports at all. And he says “I challenged both football and basketball, but I still cannot find out my strong sports!” In this case, I think he can find out his strength in other fields, not in sports.
